Serious MRSA Infections in U.S. Declining: CDC

17.09.2013

Study results published in JAMA Internal Medicine suggest that potentially fatal invasive infections from methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are declining in the US, as reported U. S. News & World Monday.

Information was collected from selected counties in nine US states, and other information was taken into account to estimate the national incidence rates.

In 2011, over 30 000 fewer invasive MRSA infections occurred than in 2005, said researcher Raymund Dantes.

Invasive MRSA infections with onset at the hospital fell 54 percent, the highest decline, with the smallest drop evident in community-associated infections, which fell just 5 percent, Dantes said.

Healthcare associated community-onset infection declined about 28 percent.
